Gig Economy Seminar
Platforms like Uber, Grubhub, Upwork, and Shipt are changing how people work. With each passing year, we move closer to a "gig economy" marked by companies that tend to hire independent contractors and freelancers instead of full-time employees. In this eye-opening seminar, you'll hear the truth about whether we're really moving toward a gig economy, learn what you can do to position yourself to succeed as an independent worker, and be exposed to the surprisingly large array of opportunities to sign up for side gigs that will fuel your passion and fit your lifestyle.

Small Business Innovation with the Government
Limited Capacity full

This is an exciting season for Air Force innovation. History has taught us that big ideas come from small business. As stewards of Air Force investment in small businesses and their technologies we often talk about innovation. It comes from people like YOU. We can tell you with certainty that innovation comes from ideas, inspiration, intuition and hard work. Finding a solution to a tough problem that is unique and that people will use is where true innovation resides. While this concept may seem simple, entrepreneurs and innovators know there is more to it than that. This is where establishing a relationship with us provides guidance, opens doors and presents opportunities.

H4Di - Hacking for Defense™ is a university-sponsored class that allows students to develop a deep understanding of the problems and needs of government sponsors in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. In a short time, students rapidly iterate prototypes and produce solutions to sponsors' needs. For universities, it keeps their programs attached to real-world problems and provides students with an experiential opportunity to become more effective in their chosen field, with a body of work to back it up. For government agencies, it allows problem sponsors to increase the speed at which their organization solves specific, mission-critical problems.

Launched by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) as another pathway to commercialization, the idea of the AFRL Entrepreneurial Opportunity Program (EOP) is that AFRL scientists and engineers will apply their skills, and possibly an intellectual property from the lab, to start or help grow a technology company. AFRL lab employees pursue one of three avenues: consider the possibility of licensing Air Force technology; apply their skills from the lab in a commercial role that could help solve Air Force problems; or temporarily support a business already licensing Air Force technology.

Charging Your Worth
I do NOT advocate "charging what you're worth".

The whole idea frightens me. I don't put a $ amount on my "worth" as a person and I hope you don't either. I know this phrase is thrown around quite a lot, but think about it before you say it: do you really want to align the price of your services with how worthy you believe you are?

Pricing your services properly is absolutely fundamental to building a profitable and sustainable business, and figuring out the proper pricing for your services is some of the most important work you can do, even though it's just one piece of the whole design of a great business.

What Pricing your services is NOT:
-It's not based on what other people in your area are charging.
-It's not based on what the market can afford or what people will pay.
-It's definitely not based on your sense of "worth".

What it really is:
-It's about knowing what you need to reach your goals
-It's about giving yourself permission to be seen as the expert
-It's about the VALUE you bring to your customers and clients

This workshop will help you calculate what you need to achieve your goals, break down the value you bring to the table, and stoke the fire in your belly, allowing you to speak your price with complete confidence.
